Raiders FA scenarios and Draft implications

Well, 2022 didn’t go as expected for the silver and black. Back to the drawing board.

Legend has it that Tom Brady wants to be a Raider. Two days ago I tweeted that if that were to happen I wouldn’t support the team for as long as he was a Raider, but I am having second thoughts… if they re-sign Josh Jacobs at all costs. I’d rather have Brady and Jacobs than no Brady and no Jacobs. But as for the quarterback position goes, I’d rather have Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garappolo, or Lamar Jackson sign with the Raiders over Brady. Rodgers is still in his prime, Garappolo seems to know only how to win. Lamar Jackson is the most electrifying QB since Randall Cunningham. In terms of financial sense, Jackson is commanding the most and Garappolo would be a bargain.

In terms of the draft, if they get any o...

2018 NFL Preview

Football is here. Rejoice, fans.

Whether it is a bone headed trade like the Raiders have made five days ago with Khalil Mack or holdouts like the Steelers’ Le’Veon Bell, football unites us all.

So without further ado, here are my pictures for the 2018 NFL season.

(See “What were the Raiders thinking” where it says “The Raiders playoff hopes are survived by…” then the twelve teams I mentioned there, for my playoff prediction. The first four teams of the first six (AFC) are the division winners and the other two are the wild cards. Repeat cycle for the last six teams (NFC).

Los Angeles Rams over Pittsburgh Steelers

Now for my world-famous First Pick in the next year’s NFL draft prediction (in this case, 2019):

What were the Raiders thinking?

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today for the memorial service… to the Raiders’ 2018 playoff chances.

As you likely have heard by now, the Raiders traded Khalil Mack and two beans (2020 2nd and conditional 5th in 2020) for a bag of beans (2019 1st & 6th, 2020 1st & 3rd). I hope this resembles Jack and the Beanstalk more than a child’s book where the patriarch sells the farm for practically nothing.

This has the potential to be a good trade for both teams, if the Raiders hit on their draft picks that they’ve just acquired. Mack alone to the Bears was worth three 1st rounders. The Bears are not a playoff team, even with Mack, but the Raiders went from a boss to a janitor real fast.

In memory of the Oakland Raiders’ 2018 playoff chances, the NFL family requests donations to the New York ...

Chargers LA Bound

An agreement was reached to have the San Diego Chargers move to Los Angeles and share a stadium with the Rams.

Where does this leave the Oakland Raiders? They were denied the Los Angeles bid. They are currently trying to get a stadium in San Antonio or in Las Vegas. It’s going to be interesting where they end up. Could it be Oakland? San Antonio? San Diego? Las Vegas?

It will be intriguing.

2014 Oakland Raiders dissapoint in week 1

I think the Oakland Raiders should remove the O in their name. Absolutely pathetic display of offense, as it was completely offensive. I think my Alma Mater could’ve stopped them today. Well, back to the drawing board.

The Texans are the Raiders’ next opponent. 1st overall pick Jadeveon Clowney may have torn his meniscus in his knee, so I believe, if he’s out, Raiders will crush the Texans. Otherwise, expect some changes in the coaching ranks.

Dynasty in infancy?

It’s been a disastrous year for the Raiders since they started 4-6 and then lost 6 in a row to finish 4-12. Granted, that’s 4 more wins than some knucklehead predicted. The Raiders easily could’ve had 9 wins. They need to finish games in which they have a lead then they’ll be alright in future seasons.

Disappointing Season

Here we are, at Week 17 of the 2013 NFL Season. The Raiders matched their win total from 2012.

However, they’ve lost five straight and they face the Broncos in Oakland on Sunday, so unless Peyton Manning sits, they have no chance of finishing 5-11.

Who’s to blame? While the roster is still full of Al Davis rejects, I blame Coaches Dennis Allen and Jason Tarver for not having the defense ready in the second half of games and the second half of the season. Look for those two to be given their pink slips by December 30, especially if the Raiders lay an egg against Denver defensively.

Things should turn around in 2014.

Bias (or laziness) exposed

I’m going to talk about something I saw on Bleacher Report that bothered me. There was an article called “How the Raiders became the least talented team in the NFL.” Instinctively I read it and judging from my own thoughts, and the responses to the article from some of the readers, it became apparent that the writer of that article didn’t know that “the least talented team” is no longer that thanks to Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie’s diligent efforts. That article is obsolete. Say the Raiders were like a chicken that one buys at the store. What do you do to a chicken once you cook it? Remove the fat and throw the fat in the garbage. Well, for McKenzie the fat was out-of-whack contracts...
